Laying a Purposeful Path: ReBuild

temp-post-image

One step after another, one by one as we continue to create meaningful steps, we are laying the foundation for a purposeful path. A path that is infused with intention and resilience. A path forged with losses and gains, enriched with successes and failures, and filled with the good, the bad and the painful. Our path may not be smooth sailing, we may experience rough and choppy waters created to make us turn around. Our path may not be straight. Nonetheless we are headed somewhere better. Our journey may not be clear, still our mind remains focused. We know exactly where we want to be, we just don’t know what lies ahead down this road. Even so we carry on. Right on cue doubt, negative commentary and the “what if’s” begin to whisper to us as we begin to write a new chapter in our lives.

“Fear can be a passenger, it cannot be the driver”

Our negative self recalls every instance where we attempted something new and we failed, causing us to second guess our ability to meet our own expectations as well as the expectations of others. We fall powerless to our negative self until we remember the elements of F.E.A.R – feelings, emotions, attachment and realistic expectations. All of these areas begin to dictate how we interact with the world around us. We as individuals allow our negative self to rip us apart and break us down mentally, why is that? Ask yourself this...would you allow a stranger to call you an “idiot”? Would you willingly agree with someone who says “your worthless”? Would you happily relive every single awful moment that has happened in your life”? If your answer is “No”, how come we so easily consume the self-hatred we spew at ourselves?

“Time to let go of fear and fly on the wings of hope”

Our negative self has a power that can be harnessed to create positivity. Think of the concept of A.C.E – acceptance, commitment and encouragement. Our negative self has accepted that we will “amount to nothing”. Our negative self is committed to reminding us that “we looked like an idiot on that job interview”. Our negative self encourages the fearful part of us to believe "that you can't do it" in order to take control and keep us stuck.

“Holding onto things never allows any movement to occur. Releasing them, provides the opportunity for magic to happen”.

You are probably thinking “how am I supposed to use any of this to walk along my purposeful path”? Here’s how, we will tell our negative self “I deserve more than what I am settling for. So shut the f@#$ up”. As we begin to move from F.E.A.R to F.R.E.E we’ll begin to accept the past for what it is, remain committed to the present and to stay encouraged for a better future. Now all of the sudden, all of those negative comments have become fuel to succeed. Instead of our negative self tearing us down, it is now helping to build us back up. Each step becomes more powerful than the last, causing our confidence to swell within us. Allowing us to reclaim our sense of self confidence. Showing us that "we've got this". It's time to grow into the you, you know you can be.

I’ll leave you with this final thought… Today is all there is. We cannot reach into the past and undo what’s already been done. We cannot jump forward to erase what has yet to be written.

Let's do what we do best, by giving everyday our best.
